Temple Israel's Woodwork by Alan Ferris
Temple israel Woodwork by Alan Ferris
This page is dedicated to woodwork created by Alan Ferris, husband of Rabbi Emerita Helene Ferris. He donated all of these original works to Temple Israel of Northern Westchester. In his free time, Alan devoted himself to avocations that included music and woodworking. May his memory be for blessing.
Thank you to Amy Hersh for photographing and documenting Alan's beautiful work and contributions to Temple Israel.

One of two identical Reading Tables on the bimah.

Alan asked congregant Susan Butterfass, of blessed memory, to design a template for the Hebrew that appears on the front of the candle lighting table. Susan created the calligraphy for the words on large sheets of paper, cut them out and gave them to Alan. Alan used them to carve out the words and attached the wood to the table.
The inscription is: Ner Mitzvah, Torah Or ( Mitzvah is a lamp, and Torah, light.)
